Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union is hunting for evidence. General secretary Reuben A. Najiar says the group will soon name former MLAs who bought land in the uranium-rich Domiasiat area. They plan to expose anyone working with the Atomic Minerals Directorate to revive mining projects.

The union learned of these deals two months ago. Some transactions allegedly happened six months back. KSU leaders know the names but refuse to talk until they secure official documents from government records and traditional heads. The union wants hard proof before acting. They will reveal everyone involved.

AMD officials are visiting Domiasiat more often. These teams carry protection from Central Armed Police Forces rather than the Meghalaya Police. The KSU finds this move disrespectful to locals and the state government. Leaders have even received anonymous threat letters for speaking out. Najiar remains firm on the union’s stance regarding these collaborators. "We made it clear that we are not interested in meeting people who betray their own people to serve their personal interests," he said.

Some individuals tried to meet with the union after the allegations went public. The KSU turned them away. They previously raised the issue with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. He promised to ask the AMD for an explanation. The union wants him to block these officials from entering the mining-prone villages entirely.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar maintains a different view. He states the central government has not approached the state to restart mining operations. The Chief Minister continues to oppose uranium extraction in Meghalaya.
