Shillong: Pankaj Naug, a British citizen born in Shillong, is missing after floods hit the Nepal-Tibet border. He disappeared while traveling for his Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. Naug, born May 7, 1975, grew up in Arunachal Pradesh before moving to the UK around 2001. He leaves behind a wife and a seven-year-old son.
Naug reached Kathmandu on August 23 with Kathmandu Holiday Tours and Travels. He crossed immigration at Rasuwagadhi at 8:15 am on August 26. He sat on a bus waiting for another pilgrim when the disaster struck. He has not been seen since.
His cousin, Shekhar Nag, tracks the situation from India. The family maintains contact with the Nepal Police but has found no definitive answers. The authorities shared photographs of unidentified remains, but the images were too graphic and damaged to confirm his identity. "Those bodies are not to be identified because it is showing some legs, hands, face, not a full body," Shekhar explained.
Naug maintained deep ties to his family in Shillong and Guwahati despite his life abroad. He visited India multiple times a year. The family now waits for news while planning to travel toward Bidur and Rasuwa once road conditions improve. His wife and son are expected to arrive in Guwahati soon. For now, the family waits in agony.
