KSU Targets Ex-MLAs Over Secret Uranium Land Deals

Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union plans to name former MLAs allegedly involved in land deals within the uranium-rich Domiasiat region. KSU general secretary Reuben A. Najiar says these politicians colluded with vested interests to clear a path for mining. The union received word of these transactions nearly two months ago. Some deals took place roughly six months back.

KSU currently holds identities of the politicians but waits for official proof from records and traditional heads. Najiar plans to go public once the paperwork is ready. "There are certain people who have been bought over and are working with the AMD to facilitate its plans," Najiar stated. The union rejected meeting requests from those involved, labeling them traitors to their own people.

AMD officials now visit villages frequently. They bring Central Armed Police Forces instead of local police for protection. This bypasses state authority and disrespects locals. KSU leaders report receiving anonymous threat letters. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma promised to question the AMD regarding these actions. KSU demands the government bar AMD officials from entering uranium-heavy villages.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar maintains the central government has not approached Meghalaya to resume mining. He insists the state government opposes the project.
