Kokrajhar Woman Denies Poisoning Husband Amid Family Property Dispute

Guwahati: Shiny Pal Brahma has publicly rejected claims that she poisoned her husband, Rakesh Brahma, arguing that the accusations are a fabricated conspiracy tied to an ongoing family property dispute. Speaking at a press conference in Kokrajhar on Thursday, she dismissed the allegations made by her mother-in-law, Parbati Brahma, as baseless attempts to ruin her reputation.

Rakesh Brahma died on Wednesday while receiving medical care at a hospital in Guwahati. His family alleges he fell ill after consuming poisoned food. Following his death, his mother claimed the wife acted out of jealousy regarding an alleged extramarital affair. Parbati Brahma stated she had previously approached the Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station for assistance but claimed no action followed.

Refuting these accusations, Shiny Pal Brahma described her personal ordeal during the recent turmoil. She stated, "The allegations made by my mother-in-law are baseless and intended to tarnish my reputation." She also claimed she was physically assaulted by her in-laws and prevented from paying final respects to her husband, leaving her to raise their two young children alone.

Local authorities have not yet confirmed either side of the story as investigations continue. Officials are now waiting for medical reports and forensic findings to determine the official cause of death for the Maibong Nagar resident.
