Kohima: Training for the Census of India 2027 has officially launched across the Kohima district, marking a key step in preparations for the nation's first fully digital census. The three-day programme, which runs from June 9 to June 11, focuses on equipping enumerators and supervisors with the technical skills needed for data collection, verification, and the use of the House Listing Operation mobile application.
Sessions are being held in four batches across Kohima to cover essential topics including legal provisions, map preparation, and data security. Participants are also learning practical approaches to household engagement, error detection, and communication protocols. The training concludes with role play exercises and a formal pledge.
During the sessions, officials emphasized the significance of the upcoming project. EAC Kohima Khriethozo Pfükri highlighted the scale of the operation, noting that the census is a constitutional exercise of national importance. The census was originally postponed from 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local leadership underscored the gravity of the task during the opening remarks. ADC Chiephobozou and Sub-divisional Census Officer Vekusheyi Rhakho told attendees that the census is one of the largest administrative and statistical operations, "providing vital data for policy formulation and resource allocation."
The House Listing Operations are scheduled to take place throughout July 2026, followed by the formal population enumeration in February 2027. Officials expect the trainees to maintain high standards of accuracy and confidentiality as they prepare to execute this historic national responsibility.
