Guwahati: Hundreds of villagers from Basalguri, Shilgara, and Malgaon took to the streets on Monday. They want to stop the state from seizing their ancestral soil. The residents fear their homes will soon belong to the Adani Group and the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited for a new thermal plant.

Student unions from Kokrajhar and Dhubri organized the rally to halt the proposed eviction. Protesters gathered in force, chanting slogans and warning local officials of a sustained fight. They refuse to hand over the earth their families have worked for generations.

Leaders Bitul Barman and Phanin Dutta Bakra stood before the crowd to condemn the Bodoland Territorial Council and the Assam government. They made their position clear to the gathered villagers. "This is our land and our home. We will shed blood, but we will not give up our land even at the cost of our lives," the leaders declared.

Police watched the crowd closely. A heavy force led by a local Deputy Superintendent arrived early to keep the peace. The demonstration remained calm despite the high tensions on the ground. No one caused trouble. After the protest, Executive Magistrate Daradi Debroy arrived to hear their demands. He promised to carry their grievances back to the government offices in Dispur.
