Agartala: The Special NDPS Court in Khowai district has sentenced a local man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for drug-related crimes. Dipankar Das, a resident of Lalchhara, was found guilty under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Alongside the prison term, the court imposed a fine of ₹50,000. If Das fails to pay this amount, he will face an additional year of imprisonment. The legal proceedings followed an arrest on December 17, 2023, after authorities recovered narcotics from the accused. Sub-Inspector Rajendra Riang filed the initial complaint at the Khowai Police Station.
Sub-Inspector Ranjit Sarkar led the subsequent investigation and submitted a charge sheet to the court on March 31, 2024. Following a trial that examined witness testimony and material evidence, the judge found Das guilty on June 2. The court finalized the sentence this past Friday. Law enforcement officials described the verdict as a major success in the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking and narcotics-related offences in the state.
