Shillong: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) is gearing up for a fight. Fed up with empty government promises, members are threatening widespread agitation. The decision followed their annual general meeting at Sacred Heart Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Mawlai this Saturday.
KJDSTA president Boswell S Pala confirmed the group will soon decide on their next move. He stated, "The association would deliberate on its future course of action, including agitation, if the government continued to ignore its grievances."
Teachers want the government to pay up. Their list of demands is long. They want the Contributory Provident Fund and National Pension Scheme implemented immediately. They are also waiting for the release of 51% and 53% Dearness Allowance, alongside 43% DA arrears. Regular salary payments remain a top priority.
The union also wants a 10% CPF contribution from salaries, the filling of all vacant teaching posts, and the formal start of the Modified Assured Career Progression Scheme. They explicitly rejected the Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employees Centralised Provident Fund Scheme set for 2026. Instead, they demand the restoration of the 2023 arrangement, including the Board of Trustees. Furthermore, they oppose the Structured Pay Framework, which Pala claims threatens the future of the entire teaching profession.
Teachers remain unpaid despite the passing of the Puja holidays. The government’s continued delay has pushed staff to the brink. They now warn that stronger measures are coming if officials fail to act.
