Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has launched a new online Eco-Shop on Amazon and the Government e-Marketplace, GeM. This initiative aims to connect local fringe communities with national and international buyers by offering biodiversity-linked goods.
Managed by the Kaziranga Staff Welfare Society, the shop has seen strong financial growth. Sales increased from ₹1.24 crore in the 2024-25 period to ₹1.87 crore in 2025-26. Field Director Dr. Sonali Ghosh stated that the platform provides vital market access for local artisans while promoting the region's unique craft heritage.
The inventory includes handloom textiles, woodcraft, honey, pickles, and items made from water hyacinth. Many products feature traditional animal motifs and natural dyes, reflecting the ecological identity of the park. More than 300 women have completed training through the Ministry of Textiles' SAMARTH scheme, allowing them to turn traditional skills into professional, market-ready goods.
By integrating these products into digital storefronts, the park seeks to ensure consistent demand for local creators. This effort aligns with the mandate of the Eco-Development Committee, which focuses on supporting artisanal enterprise and improving the socio-economic status of residents living near the tiger reserve.
