Guwahati: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has officially extended the terms of office for all nominated Municipal Board and Town Committee Chairpersons and Ward Commissioners. This decision covers local government representatives across both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts.

This extension remains in effect for six months, spanning retrospectively from May 3, 2026, until November 2, 2026. The mandate originated from the 26th Executive Committee Meeting of the 13th KAAC, following the adoption of EC Resolution No. 12 on May 14, 2026.

Joint Secretary Ibon Teron, representing the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, issued the formal notification. The order cites adherence to Section 6 (1)(a) and Section 6 (1)(b) of the Mikir Hills District (Constitution of Town Committees) Rules, 1958, as the legal basis for the extension. Relevant administrative and police officials, including District Commissioners and Executive Members, have been notified to facilitate the transition.
