Guwahati: Kamrup Metropolitan has officially become the first district in Assam to exceed its target under the national HPV Vaccination Programme. The region achieved a 100.9 per cent coverage rate, successfully vaccinating 12,655 adolescent girls against an original goal of 12,539.
Launched on March 15, 2026, the three-month campaign serves as a critical effort to protect 14-year-old girls from cervical cancer. Each participant received a free dose of the Gardasil-4 vaccine at health facilities equipped with cold chain points throughout the district.
Health officials described the achievement as a significant milestone in Assam's efforts to prevent cervical cancer and strengthen adolescent health services through expanded immunisation coverage. Success was driven by a coordinated effort between the district administration and various health departments.
The initiative operated under the guidance of District Commissioner Swapneel Paul and District Development Commissioner Parijat Bhuyan, alongside key medical leadership. To maintain accountability, all beneficiary data was consistently uploaded to the U-WIN Portal. This systematic approach ensured that vaccination services reached all intended recipients throughout the campaign duration.
