Jorhat and Mokokchung Officials Meet to Secure Assam-Nagaland Border

Kohima: Top officials from Jorhat in Assam and Mokokchung in Nagaland met July 10 to cool tensions along their shared border. They held the meeting behind closed doors in Mangkolemba. Both sides want to keep the peace. The gathering included district administrators, police chiefs, and civil society leaders from both states.

Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma called the talk productive. He noted, "The meeting has been convened to ensure that coordination at the border level is happening and whatever issues we are facing in the border areas are consulted properly."

The two districts agreed to enforce the status quo at Aosenden Village. Neither side will start new construction projects there. Border magistrates have seven days to inspect Aokum Village together. They also pledged to share contact details for all new staff to ensure lines of communication stay open.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Jay Shivani pressed for daily contact between local magistrates. Officials will now provide notice before any official visits to the border. They also promised to respect local customs, including Sunday rest periods in Nagaland.
