Guwahati: The Jan Kalyan Shivir 2026 officially began on June 18 at the Adalbari Community Hall in the Baksa district of Assam. This three-day outreach initiative runs until June 20, operating simultaneously across all five development blocks to bring government welfare services directly to residents.
District Commissioner Kimnei Changsan opened the event alongside several local leaders, including MLAs Thaneswar Basumatary and Maneswar Brahma. The initiative aims to connect eligible citizens with vital support, ranging from the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY health coverage to food distribution under the National Food Security Act. Changsan urged residents to actively engage with the event, noting that the "Jan Kalyan Shivir serves as an important platform for connecting eligible beneficiaries with government schemes."
Speakers highlighted the impact of various state and central programs on the Bodoland Territorial Region. MLA Maneswar Brahma pointed to the success of initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Chief Minister's Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan in supporting farmers, youth, and women. To assist with the rollout, organizers established help desks and departmental stalls at the venue to provide clear information on benefits and enrollment.
The inaugural ceremony also honored local contributors to community growth. Officials presented awards to progressive farmers, healthcare workers, and members of Self-Help Groups in recognition of their achievements. By bridging the gap between government administration and the public, the event intends to improve the reach and effectiveness of social protection programs throughout the district.
