Shillong: Members of the Jaintia National Council Western Zone shut down the Airtel office in Ladthalaboh, Jowai, this past Thursday. Led by president Hamehi Bamon, the group locked the building to protest the telecom provider's failure to fix persistent network failures. The company failed to act. This blockade follows a January 28 meeting where Airtel officials promised to install a new tower near Woodland Hospital in Sabah Muswang.
Airtel reps claimed they would identify a site and finish the job within four months. That deadline has passed. The JNC says they have received nothing but vague excuses since the original agreement. The organization stressed that poor service hampers local residents and threatens critical medical operations at the hospital. Officials claim the protest was necessary to force accountability, stating it was intended to press Airtel to honour its earlier assurance and begin work on improving network services.
The group warned that further delays will lead to harsher actions. They demand immediate movement on the project to restore reliable connectivity for the region. As of now, the office remains closed by the protesters until the company provides a concrete, working schedule.
