Gangtok: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police launched a five-day orientation program on June 1 to educate personnel on the language, culture, and traditions of Sikkim. The initiative kicked off at the 13th Battalion headquarters in Gangtok with Deputy Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh in attendance.

Forty officers from the 11th, 13th, 48th, and 63rd Battalions are taking part in the training. Experts from the Sikkim Department of Culture are leading the sessions, which cover local customs, cuisine, attire, and linguistic history. The curriculum focuses on the traditions of the state's three primary communities, specifically the Lepcha, Bhutia, and Nepali people.

Commandant Sunil Kandpal and other senior officers attended the inauguration ceremony. The project aims to improve engagement between security forces and residents by fostering a deeper understanding of the local heritage in this border state.
