Itanagar: Itanagar police have cleared two major cases after intense weeks of investigative work. Officers recovered 14 stolen two-wheelers and arrested a three-man crew responsible for a 13 lakh robbery at Neelam Traders.
The vehicle recovery follows a 20-day sweep across the Capital Region and Papum Pare district. Police apprehended four children, aged 10 to 14, in connection with Case No. 171/2026. The minors led authorities to bikes stashed in various locations. Investigators noted that the thieves had tampered with registration, engine, and chassis numbers on several recovered units. Owners will get their property back once legal processing finishes.
Separately, police solved the daylight heist at Gandhi Market that occurred June 22. Two men walked into the shop at 11.19 am pretending to need help with CCTV footage. One suspect pulled a knife from a file cover and grabbed 13 lakh in cash. A third man kept watch outside. The crew fled to Seppa and hid across East Kameng, Assam, and other parts of the state.
"The case was cracked through sustained field investigation, technical analysis and effective inter-district coordination despite the absence of continuous CCTV coverage and deliberate efforts by the accused to conceal their identities and movements," officials stated. The team reviewed over 500 hours of footage and tracked mobile signals to hunt down Prem Rebe, Gungung Tagang, and Yubi Kamchi.
The suspects used the stolen cash to buy a four-wheeler, new bikes, and mobile phones. Police froze one bank account and seized the purchased goods. The operation required a massive task force including SI Samuel Ngupok, ASI Marli Kamgo, and several constables from the Capital and East Kameng units.
