Guwahati: The Inland Waterways Authority of India observed the 12th International Day of Yoga by hosting unique sessions aboard vessels navigating the Brahmaputra River. Across various locations in Assam, officials and local community members participated in the Common Yoga Protocol while cruising along National Waterway-2.
In Guwahati, participants gathered on the tugs MPT Sukhdev and HPT B.R. Ambedkar to mark the occasion. Similar sessions took place at Jogighopa aboard the WB Saffron, as well as on the WB Iris and WB Tansy near Bogibeel in Dibrugarh.
Prabin Bora, Director of the IWAI Regional Office in Guwahati, noted that the initiative highlights the intersection of physical health and the scenic potential of national waterways. He emphasized the government's commitment to wellness by stating, "Conducting yoga sessions aboard vessels on the Brahmaputra symbolised harmony between human well-being and nature while reinforcing the message of building a healthy, sustainable and inclusive future."
This year, the events focused on the theme of Yoga for Healthy Ageing. By taking the practice onto the water, the IWAI aimed to showcase the connection between traditional Indian wellness practices and the nation's river systems.
