Guwahati: Forest Department agents hammered illegal timber smuggling in Bihpuria, Assam. The team launched a targeted operation at Dhunaguri. They seized more than 100 cubic feet of Simul wood planks. The haul lacked legal transit documentation.
Bihpuria Range Forest Officer Gopi Chetry led the raid. Officials suspect the timber was destined for an unauthorized market. The department has stepped up its patrols across the region to stop the illicit trade. Gopi Chetry stated that the "Forest Department has intensified its action against the illegal movement of timber in the area."
Authorities have not yet traced the exact origin of the wood. The intended destination remains unknown. Officials are currently holding the shipment as the investigation continues.
