Itanagar: India Post is launching a massive drone logistics network to bridge connectivity gaps in the remote regions of Assam and Himachal Pradesh. By partnering with Skye Air Mobility, the postal service will transport mail bags across 150 routes, connecting 110 locations in Himachal Pradesh and 40 in Assam.

This initiative targets areas where standard transportation struggles against seasonal floods, heavy snowfall, and challenging mountain terrain. Each drone carries up to 10 kilograms of cargo, including pension documents, government notices, and essential medical supplies. The aircraft utilize artificial intelligence to navigate autonomously, adjusting their flight paths in real time based on changing weather patterns.

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia highlighted the efficiency gains provided by the technology. He noted that on the Mandi-Rehardhar route in Himachal Pradesh, a journey that previously took several hours can now be completed in just seven minutes while enabling real-time tracking.

Skye Air Mobility CEO Ankit Kumar stated that the project aims to strengthen connectivity and ensure reliable access to essential services in regions where conventional logistics solutions face challenges. This expansion follows successful pilot programs conducted in Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh. The deployment supports the broader government goal of establishing India as a global drone hub by 2030.
