Guwahati: In a significant milestone for wildlife conservation, Assam released India's first satellite-tagged Ganges softshell turtle at Kaziranga National Park to coincide with Endangered Species Day. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the achievement, highlighting the state's ongoing dedication to protecting the diverse species residing within its forests and wetlands.

This conservation milestone aligns with broader efforts to expand ecological infrastructure in the region. Earlier this year, the state inaugurated the Kaziranga Orchid Park at Kohora. Spanning 20 bighas with a total investment of 16 crore rupees, the facility houses over 900 indigenous and exotic orchid species across seven specialized glasshouses.

The park is designed as a multifaceted destination, featuring an amphitheatre, educational resources, and tourist amenities, all aimed at promoting biodiversity while providing a holistic experience for visitors. Through such projects, Assam continues to integrate scientific research, habitat preservation, and public engagement.
