Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has reinforced its standing in the global academic community by securing the ninth position among Indian institutions. In the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, the institute achieved a global ranking of 349, cementing its status as a premier technical education centre in Northeast India.

IIT Delhi leads the national rankings at 118 globally, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Madras. Other prominent institutions, including IISc Bengaluru and the University of Delhi, also maintain top national spots. The QS assessment measures universities based on diverse criteria, such as research quality, academic reputation, faculty strength, and industry collaboration.

Since its founding in 1994, IIT Guwahati has demonstrated consistent growth across key performance indicators. Experts view this upward trajectory as a positive signal for the nation, noting that "the steady progress of institutions such as IIT Guwahati reflects the growing global competitiveness of Indian higher education."

Globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology maintains the top position for the 15th year in a row, followed by Imperial College London, Stanford University, and Oxford. As Indian universities continue to climb these rankings, analysts suggest that future success will depend on sustained investment in research infrastructure and expanded international partnerships.
