Shillong: Dr. Arun Mohan Sherry, the new Director of IIM Shillong, is pushing to align elite management education with the needs of Meghalaya. Sherry brings thirty years of academic experience to the job. He previously served as the Founding Director of IIIT Lucknow and earned a Gold Medal from IIT Kharagpur. He wants to use global management tools to fix local problems. The institute runs the North East Centre for Community Impact and Engagement to help regional entrepreneurs. "It is important to connect world-class management education with the aspirations and realities of the Northeast," Sherry said.
IIM Shillong launched the five-stage Integrated Program in Management to train ethical leaders. The school offers loans and scholarships to keep costs low for local students. Meanwhile, Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School marked its 150th anniversary with a two-day literary meet. Hazia Jeron Syiem of B.K. Bajoria took first in a debate on social media age limits. Aakriti Chettri and Aryama Upadhaya followed. Monodip Dey and Surojit Deb of Laban Bengalee Boys Higher Secondary School won the inter-school quiz. Principal Amit Thapa plans to hold the final closing ceremony on October 1.
West Jaintia Hills police caught two men with stolen bikes. Officers from Amlarem station stopped Pynshngai Jyrwa and Rijiedstar Shylla at Ladjaplem. Their motorcycles, registered as AS-01FK 3482 and AS-26A 9873, were stolen in Changsari, Assam. Dawki police also grabbed two more bikes, NL-07EB 8467 and AS-05S 3378. Those machines remain under police guard for verification.
