Imphal: The Hmar Inpui has officially walked away from the Kuki-Zo Council. This move ends their membership immediately. The organization confirmed the split in a letter sent to KZC President Henlianthang Thanglet. They based the decision on a resolution passed during their 15th assembly on April 16, 2026.

Hmar Inpui leaders say they joined the council hoping for a unified political front. They wanted a voice for every Zohnathlak tribe in Manipur. Instead, they found the group lacking. The Hmar Inpui claimed the KZC failed to stay inclusive and drifted away from its core goals. According to the organization, the council is not the platform they once envisioned. They stated, "KZC had not sufficiently upheld the principle of inclusivity among all Zohnathlak tribes."

The group remains open to new talks. They still want a path forward for their shared political aims. While the doors to the KZC are closed, the Hmar Inpui said they are ready to explore other strategies. They thanked their former colleagues and wished the council well in future efforts.
