Imphal: The Hmar Inpui broke ties with the Kuki-Zo Council on July 1. The apex body for the Hmar community claims the council failed to grow into an inclusive platform for all Zohnathlak tribes. It is a major political shift in Manipur.

Hmar Inpui President Rev. Ros Infimate and General Secretary Immanuel Pulamte signed the formal statement. They initially joined the coalition hoping for a unified group that would advance the interests of every Zohnathlak community. Those hopes died. The organization stated the council has "not developed into the inclusive body originally envisioned" and no longer acts as a common platform.

The council started in 2024 to unite the political and social goals of Kuki-Zo tribes. Despite the exit, the Hmar Inpui says it still supports the broader goals of the Zohnathlak people. They remain ready to talk about issues that matter to everyone. The group thanked the council for their time together before parting ways.
