Gangtok: A historic fire consumed the Thangu Sertok Gumpa in North Sikkim late on June 5. The blaze began around 11:00 PM and quickly tore through the structure, leaving nothing but ashes. Local residents attempted to fight the flames, but they could not save any items from inside the building.

The fire also spread to two residential houses in the immediate area, destroying both properties. The monastery, which was built around 1965, served as a center of deep cultural and religious importance for the people of Lachen. Local reports describe the incident as a major loss, stating that "the destruction of the gumpa has left the local community deeply saddened."

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Officials plan to launch a formal investigation into the incident and conduct a full assessment of the total damage caused by the blaze.
