Itanagar: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for the northeastern region, anticipating widespread rainfall and intense thunderstorms through May 27. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to bear the brunt of this activity, with heavy downpours and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 kmph driven by moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists point to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Assam as a key factor in the strengthening weather patterns. Specific districts in Arunachal Pradesh, including Tawang, West Kameng, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri, East Siang, and Changlang, should prepare for consistent rainfall that may lead to flash floods and landslides.
The alert extends beyond Arunachal Pradesh to include Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Because parts of the region have recently experienced flooding, officials are urging residents in low-lying and hilly areas to exercise caution. Emergency services are currently on standby to address potential road disruptions and other storm-related emergencies as the region faces these pre-monsoon conditions.
