Guwahati: A severe landslide triggered by relentless rainfall has completely blocked National Highway 27 in Assam, bringing traffic to a standstill in the Dima Hasao district. The collapse occurred along the Jatinga to Harangajao stretch, where mud and debris cascaded onto the road surface on Sunday.
Hundreds of passenger buses, private vehicles, and freight trucks remain stranded on both sides of the blockage. Many commuters have been forced to wait for hours in difficult weather conditions as the debris remains unshifted. Local authorities have cautioned travelers against using the route until the road is deemed safe.
District officials launched a recovery operation, but progress remains slow due to persistent rain and the instability of the surrounding hills. Responding to the crisis, the district administration released a formal advisory to the public, stating, "The district administration has urged the public to avoid non-essential travel on the Jatinga to Harangajao route until normal traffic movement is restored."
Crews are currently on-site working to clear the highway. The administration continues to monitor the site closely to manage safety concerns and restore vital transport links as quickly as conditions allow.
