Guwahati: Hackers hijacked the official Facebook page of the Assam Premier League on Monday, July 27. The breach occurred only days before the domestic cricket tournament starts. Digital security is now a major concern for the league.
Trouble started when a post attacking Rajasthan Royals captain and Assam cricketer Riyan Parag appeared on the feed. The post drew immediate heat before officials pulled it down. APL authorities quickly regained access to the account.
They issued a public apology for the mess. "APL authorities confirmed that they had intervened and regained access to the account." Despite that claim, the situation remains unstable.
The page name now reads Assam Premier League Sarcasm. Troll posts keep popping up on the feed. This suggests the hackers still have an open door to the account. No one knows who is behind the attack. Officials have not said if they filed a report with cybercrime police. Teams are now working to lock down the page and stop further misuse.
