Habbey Teron Named Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly

Guwahati: Lawmakers unanimously tapped Habbey Teron as the new Deputy Speaker of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday. He is a first-time BJP representative. No other candidates entered the race.

Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass confirmed the appointment after receiving three nominations in Teron's favor. "As there is no other nomination, I declare Dr Habbey Teron as the Deputy Speaker of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly," Dass stated during the proceedings.

Teron currently serves the Amri Assembly constituency. This district emerged following the 2023 delimitation process. Members from the treasury and opposition benches offered their congratulations following the announcement. Leaders from the BJP, AGP, BPF, Congress, and TMC pledged their support for his upcoming tenure.
