Guwahati: Guwahati is bracing for a massive influx of pilgrims as the Kamakhya Temple finalizes arrangements for the annual Ambubachi Mela. The four-day spiritual festival begins on the night of June 22 and concludes on the morning of June 26, drawing lakhs of devotees, sadhus, and practitioners from across the globe to the Nilachal Hills.
Temple priest Himadri Sarma confirmed that the administration is working closely with the Assam government to oversee security, sanitation, and accommodation. He stated, "The temple administration, in coordination with the Assam government, is fully prepared to manage all aspects of the festival, including devotee facilities, security arrangements, and ritual observances."
The festival honors the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, an event representing fertility and divine feminine power. Traditional rituals dictate that the sanctum will close following the Pravritti ceremony at 9:08 pm on June 22. The temple will remain shut for three days, with no darshan permitted, until the Nivritti ritual takes place at sunrise on June 26. Following purification ceremonies, the temple will reopen to the public for darshan and the distribution of the sacred rakta bastra prasad.
