Guwahati: Guwahati police netted a massive haul of illegal gold in the Kharghuli area. Officers seized 38 kilograms of the precious metal, valued at roughly 54 crore rupees. It is one of the biggest busts in recent memory.

A team from Latasil Police Station led the operation after getting a hot tip on the shipment. They moved fast to intercept the cargo before it could move deeper into the city. They arrested Akshay Bansure on the spot.

Police found more than just gold. They grabbed four mobile phones and 3,700 rupees in cash from his possession. Authorities now believe Bansure has ties to a larger, international smuggling ring.

Investigators are sweating the suspect for answers. A police spokesperson noted, "timely intervention enabled the team to intercept the consignment before any further movement." The investigation continues as officials map out the reach of the syndicate.
