Guwahati: Two reporters claim an Assam Police officer humiliated and threatened them during a July 4 press briefing. The incident happened at the Pragjyotishpur Police Outpost in Chandrapur. DCP Shambhavi Mishra held the event to discuss an arms seizure case.

Journalist Samsul Rahman says Mishra dragged him into the officer-in-charge's chamber after he asked questions. He claims she confiscated his phone and threatened his job. The officer allegedly mocked his education and questioned his right to challenge an IPS officer. Another reporter, Vibhas Das, confirmed the hostile behavior. Das says he was also summoned and treated rudely after asking about a vehicle linked to an investigation.

The Guwahati Press Club blasted the conduct. They say the journalists were treated "like criminals" during the interaction. Leaders Khagen Kalita and Amarendra Deka demanded a public apology. If no apology arrives, the club plans to launch a protest on July 11.

Mishra refused to comment on the claims. Assam police leadership remains silent. No official response has come from the Commissioner of Police or the state Home Department despite mounting pressure.
