Guwahati: Guwahati Police dismantled a sophisticated IPL betting racket during a coordinated raid conducted on the night of the league's final match. Acting on intelligence, a team led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police raided the residence of prime suspect Alok Jain, where they discovered live betting activities taking place as the game unfolded.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shambhavi Mishra stated that investigators found evidence of long-term illegal gambling operations. During the search, officers confiscated 16 mobile phones, two laptops, two monitors, and several tablets that were being used to facilitate the bets and stream the match live.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of 80,000 rupees in cash, a significant amount of jewellery, and several luxury vehicles. Authorities further seized roughly 26 land-related documents pertaining to various properties across Guwahati.
Police are now scrutinising these assets and records to determine the scope of the network and identify potential financial connections. Investigators confirmed that the probe remains active, with the possibility of additional arrests as they process the evidence collected at the site.
