Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the 1,000-crore redevelopment of Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital in Guwahati on June 29. The site is currently undergoing a total overhaul. The plan turns the aging site into a modern, 800-bed super-specialty facility.

Future expansion plans allow for the hospital to eventually hold 1,200 patients. The Chief Minister noted that the upgraded hospital will significantly strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state and help reduce the patient burden on Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. By modernizing the site, officials hope to meet the rising demand for care across Assam.

Sarma pushed for a quick finish to the construction work. He stated, "The Chief Minister stressed the importance of timely completion of the project to ensure world-class healthcare services become available to the public at the earliest."
