Grieving Mother Seeks Justice After Nalbari Youth Killed Protecting Cousin

Guwahati: Deepa Barman is demanding justice following the death of her 19-year-old son, Madhurjya Barman, who was killed while protecting his cousin from an attack in the Nalbari district. The grieving mother has called on the government to ensure those responsible face consequences so no other family endures similar suffering.

The incident occurred on a Sunday night near Gangapur in Mukalmua, where the cousins were traveling on a scooter. Madhurjya, a student leader serving as Assistant General Secretary of the West Nalbari Regional Students' Union, died at the scene. His 18-year-old cousin, Mridumudra Deka, sustained critical injuries and remains under medical care at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Police identified Roz Ali as the primary suspect in the attack. Following a subsequent manhunt, authorities reported that Ali was killed during a police encounter in Mukalmua. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Reflecting on her final moments with her son, Deepa Barman remembered a kind and hardworking young man who stopped to see her before heading back out on the evening he was killed. She remains devastated by the loss, urging officials to take firm action to protect the safety of youth in the region.
