Itanagar: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched the Mission on Arunachal Kiwi. The Rs 167-crore initiative aims to transform the state's kiwi sector by improving cultivation practices, value addition, and international market access. The project seeks to move farmers away from distress sales by creating a robust value chain that connects local production directly to global buyers.
The mission involves a collaborative effort between multiple central ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. To support this growth, the program will establish six integrated post-harvest management hubs in key growing regions such as Ziro Valley, Dirang, Kalaktang, Shi Yomi, and Dibang Valley.
This initiative includes more than 30 strategic interventions to address existing gaps in the supply chain. Key goals include restoring organic certification, expanding cold storage facilities, and implementing better branding and traceability measures. Scindia noted that these efforts align with the broader Brand North East strategy, which promotes specific regional products from each state, such as Sikkim's organic farming and Meghalaya's turmeric.
