Imphal: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) recently completed a humanitarian mission to assist residents displaced by violence in Manipur’s Kamjong district. The May 7 conflict resulted in the destruction of homes in Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee villages, leaving many families in urgent need of support.
Led by Convenor Chuba Ovukum and Co-Convenor Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu, the GNF relief team traveled from Kohima to Ukhrul on May 30 to distribute food, clothing, and essential medicines. These materials were gathered through donations from GNF members, supporters, and friends across Nagaland and beyond. The Forum expressed gratitude to all contributors, noting, "The Forum expressed gratitude to all individuals and organisations who extended support for the mission."
The relief supplies were delivered to village leaders at Choro Church on May 31. Representatives from Wanglee and Namlee were directed to collect their designated portions from this central point. During the visit, the GNF held a solidarity meeting with local leaders from the Tangkhul Naga Long and Tangkhul Shanao Long to reaffirm their commitment to the affected communities.
GNF General Secretary Lakpachui Siro coordinated the local efforts in Ukhrul alongside volunteers. Moving forward, the organization has called on the state government to accelerate rehabilitation, reconstruction efforts, and the distribution of compensation to the displaced families.
