Imphal: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has formally commended the United Naga Council (UNC) and various Naga civil society organizations in Manipur for their decision to release fourteen Kuki hostages on June 9, 2026. This act of reconciliation followed a GNF delegation meeting in Senapati on May 23, where representatives advocated for the safe and dignified release of the detainees.
Reflecting on the decision to pursue peace rather than retaliation, the GNF stated, "While we were fully convinced that our six beloved Naga brothers were no longer alive, we firmly believed that innocent people should not suffer for crimes they did not commit." The forum noted that this choice demonstrates that the Naga people are guided by justice and humanity instead of vengeance.
The GNF also recognized the support of international bodies, including the World Baptist Alliance, for their role in facilitating this outcome. With the detainees now safe, the GNF is calling on the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to respond to this gesture of goodwill by addressing the long-standing demands of the Naga people. The organization maintains that sincere political engagement remains the only path toward stability, justice, and reconciliation in the region.
