Guwahati: Assam has achieved a significant milestone in its agricultural trade as its Geographical Indication tagged lemons have reached Dubai. The shipment signifies a growing international demand for high-quality produce originating from Northeast India.
The export initiative was facilitated by the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation, which operates under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. Government officials emphasized that the move helps elevate the status of local goods while boosting the livelihoods of regional farmers.
In a recent statement regarding the shipment, the Chief Minister’s Office of Assam celebrated the achievement on social media. "GI-tagged Assam lemons reaching Dubai reflect the growing global recognition of Northeast India’s quality produce and farmer-led enterprise," the office stated.
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region confirmed that this project is part of a broader effort to expand the global footprint of the region's agricultural sector. By connecting local producers to international markets, the ministry aims to foster long-term economic growth and professional empowerment for farmers across the state.
