Guwahati: Gauhati University officials cleared the air Wednesday. They denied any plans to build a VIP dining hall at the campus guest house. The term appeared in early tender papers by mistake. It sparked confusion over the building project.
University leaders confirmed the upgrade is for everyone. The existing hall cannot handle the influx of visitors. Rising academic and administrative work brought more guests to the site. The current kitchen and staff quarters are falling apart. Officials said the facility needs urgent repairs.
The school claims the VIP tag was just an old internal habit. Staff used it for visiting experts and professors in the past. It never defined the project scope. The university fixed the error in a June 24, 2026, letter. That document correctly describes the site as a standard dining hall.
The school is not letting this slide. Leaders demanded answers from their engineering team. The university stated, "The expression VIP Dining Hall was inadvertently used in one of the documents." They insist the construction aims only to boost common space for alumni, parents, students, and visiting faculty.
