Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court is set to hear the bail application filed by Siddhartha Sharma on June 4, 2026. The proceedings will take place before Justice Parthiv Jyoti Saikia. Sharma, a primary suspect in the death of Zubeen Garg, requested the High Court to intervene after a Special Fast Track Court previously denied his release.
Authorities arrested Sharma on October 1 alongside co-accused Shyam Kanu Mahanta. Judge Sharmila Bhuyan recently framed charges against Sharma and six other individuals under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The formal case, State versus Siddhartha Sharma and Six Others, involves serious allegations including murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion, and the destruction of evidence.
Beyond Sharma and Mahanta, the other defendants include Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Amritprabha Mahanta, Sandipan Garg, Nandeswar Borah, and Paresh Baishya. With charges now officially framed, the trial is expected to move forward in the Special Fast Track Court pending the outcome of the bail hearing.
