Fourteen Nations Conclude Joint Counter-Terror Exercise in India

Shillong: Exercise PRAGATI 2026 concluded on Saturday at the Umroi Military Station, marking the end of a three-day mission designed to sharpen the collective response to regional security threats. The initiative brought together more than 400 soldiers from 14 countries, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam, for intensive training sessions.

The program focused on tactical operations in jungle and semi-mountainous environments. Troops practiced specialized skills such as rock craft, room interventions, jungle lane shooting, and the detection of improvised explosive devices. Mixed teams, formed from personnel across the participating nations, worked together during the final validation phase to ensure smooth coordination between different military units.

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, hosted the closing ceremony, which drew six Vice Chiefs and dozens of senior military leaders. Beyond the drills, the event served as a platform for strengthening diplomatic ties. Lt Gen Seth held bilateral meetings to discuss the future of regional defence cooperation while officials highlighted the importance of sharing best practices.

The Indian Army also partnered with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry to host an exhibition of indigenous military technology. This display highlighted systems developed through the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to showcase local defence capabilities and encourage international knowledge sharing.
