The group, which included Thangtinlen Chongloi, Paotinkai Chongloi, Lunsei Chongloi, Kaimang Chongloi, Hengunsei Chongloi, Luntinlal Chongloi, Tonggoulen Chongloi, Sehginlun Chongloi, Sehminhao Chongloi, Paogoulhang Chongloi, Haominlun Kipgen, Lamgoulen Kipgen, Thanglemang Chongloi, and Thangminlen Chongloi, had been in the custody of Naga village guards since May 13, 2026. Representatives from the Senapati Police, Assam Rifles, Central Armed Police Forces, and district administration oversaw the transfer.

Officials from the civil society organisations confirmed the detainees were returned in good, safe and sound condition. Following the release, Paotinkai Chongloi reported that the group received adequate care throughout their time in custody, receiving two meals daily along with tea, clothing, and blankets.

Reflecting on the experience, Paotinkai Chongloi stated, "We have been well treated." He encouraged his own community to view the kindness extended by the Naga village guards as a model for inter-communal relations during the current state tensions. The unconditional release is viewed as a positive development for regional stability and ongoing peace efforts.
