Agartala: A devastating road accident occurred late Sunday evening near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura, resulting in the deaths of four labourers. The incident took place in the Longtarai Valley subdivision of the Dhalai district when a truck transporting stone chips for local infrastructure projects overturned while attempting to navigate a steep, poorly maintained stretch of road.

According to Longtarai Valley Sub-divisional Police Officer Sonacharan Jamatia, the vehicle was traveling from Chawmanu to the Biju Border Out Post. The truck failed to clear the ascent and overturned while reversing. Four labourers, who were seated atop the cargo, were thrown from the vehicle before being buried under the heavy load of stone chips. Tragically, all four victims passed away at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Balidhanjoy Tripura, 47, Majida Tripura, 50, Bathojoy Tripura, 39, and Narjoy Tripura, 36.

Personnel from the nearby Border Security Force were the first to arrive, conducting immediate rescue operations to assist those trapped. While the individuals inside the truck cabin survived, six others sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment; one victim remains in critical condition. Local police have registered a case and initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
