Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh Calls for Calm After Discovery of Six Bodies

Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh expressed optimism on Thursday regarding the state's law and order following new interventions by the Central government. These remarks came after he visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal to meet families grieving the loss of six individuals whose bodies were recently recovered.

The victims are believed to be six people abducted from Leilol Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13. Their remains are currently held at the medical facility for formal identification and post-mortem examinations. Biren Singh strongly condemned the killings and offered his condolences to the affected families.

Highlighting ongoing government measures, the former Chief Minister noted that the Central government has deployed a CoBRA team to the region. He also pointed to administrative adjustments within law and order management portfolios as signs of progress. He emphasized the necessity of dialogue over violence, stating, "Violence has no place in society and stressed that issues can be resolved through dialogue, discussions and talks."

Biren Singh concluded by urging all communities in Manipur to maintain calm and work together to restore stability. He stressed that public participation remains essential in fostering harmony and ending the cycle of unrest in the state.
