Shillong: Financial chaos erupted at the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) budget session in Meghalaya. Lawmakers grilled the executive committee over a suspicious Rs 23.60 lakh payout and a massive, controversial Rs 200 crore loan plan.
MDC Rinaldo K. Sangma pointed to a Delhi firm called Lexi Corp LLP. Records show the company collected Rs 20 lakh initially and another Rs 3.60 lakh in professional fees during 2025. Rinaldo noted that Budget Grant No. 12 shows zero spending on loans, yet this cash vanished from the council coffers.
Deputy Chief Executive Member Stevie M. Marak accused former leaders Albinush R. Marak and Nikman Ch. Marak of backroom dealing. He claimed they pushed the Rs 200 crore loan without proper council oversight. Stevie alleged his attendance was faked in official meeting minutes to bypass scrutiny. He told the assembly, "I would initiate a forgery case."
Nikman argued the firm worked for the former CEM personally. Stevie countered by presenting documents listing the former heads as the first directors of Lexi Corp LLP. The current administration now demands the recovery of all funds paid to the company. Opposition members joined the fight, demanding answers on who authorized the payout and why official records were altered.
