Guwahati: Forest department officials seized a vehicle loaded with a large consignment of illegal Sal timber in Baghor village, located within the Boko area of Assam's Kamrup district. The operation, which confiscated wood valued at several lakh rupees, followed specific intelligence regarding smuggling routes.

Singra Range Forest Officer Kamal Deka led the mission after receiving reports that illicit timber was being moved from the Assam-Meghalaya border toward the Charan area. The team intercepted the Tata DI vehicle after discovering it had been concealed in the locality.

Authorities described the raid as part of a broader crackdown on timber smuggling networks that exploit the porous inter-state border to transport high-value resources. Officials noted that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to address persistent deforestation challenges within the West Kamrup Forest Division. A forest official stated that "surveillance and enforcement measures have been intensified in an effort to curb illegal logging activities and protect forest resources in the region."
