Itanagar: Floods and landslides are hammering Arunachal Pradesh. Six districts reported fresh damage over the last 24 hours. The State Emergency Operation Centre says the disaster has now affected 94,201 people across 333 villages. Residents in Keyi Panyor, Upper Siang, Tirap, Changlang, Papum Pare, and Upper Subansiri are digging out from the latest wave of destruction.
The death toll from recent weeks has hit six. On Wednesday, a landslide killed two Bihar laborers at a construction site in Lohit. Two women swept away by flash floods in Keyi Panyor on June 24 are still missing. The State Emergency Operation Centre confirmed, "Rescue, relief and restoration operations are continuing in the affected areas."
Infrastructure is in shambles. The state lost 131 roads, 19 bridges, and nearly 200 water supply systems. Power lines are down. Schools and hospitals also took direct hits. Farmers lost over 300 hectares of crops to the rising water and mud. Hundreds of houses are damaged or gone.
The India Meteorological Department expects the rain to ease by Friday. Most districts should be free of warnings by Saturday. However, eastern areas remain under Yellow Alert through Monday. Two relief camps in Keyi Panyor currently house 252 displaced residents.
