Guwahati: The Diphu River has surged past the danger mark, triggering flash floods that hit Diphu town in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. Water levels rose quickly, trapping residents and forcing floodwaters into homes and across public spaces. The deluge hit several key areas hard.
Shivbari, Panbari, Dharamnala, and the Pirbi Market are underwater. The Diphu Government Boys’ field is submerged too. Roads remain impassable in these neighborhoods. Commercial activity in Pirbi Market stalled as water flooded shops and stopped daily business.
Locals had almost no time to react to the rising tide. One resident said, "The water level rose rapidly, leaving little time for people in low-lying areas to respond." Concerns are mounting over potential further damage if the river stays at this height. Authorities are now tracking the situation as the water continues to affect the town.
