Guwahati: Five tea garden workers sustained injuries during a head-on collision between an ambulance and a Mahindra Bolero at the Samdang Bypass in Tinsukia on Friday afternoon. The ambulance, which was transporting patients from Khowang Tea Estate to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital, was struck by the SUV as it traveled from the direction of Digboi.

Medical staff reported that two of the workers are currently in critical condition, while the remaining three suffered varying degrees of injury. The victims were identified as Dhaneshwar Nayak, Binod Prasad, Sunil Nayak, Somari Nayak, and Babul Kisan. Local residents assisted with the initial rescue efforts before emergency teams arrived to transport the victims to the hospital.

Doomdooma police and district authorities have launched an investigation into the crash and taken the driver of the Bolero into custody. The incident has reignited concerns among locals regarding road safety in the area.

One representative from the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association warned that the community may take action if safety is not improved. "Accidents occur frequently here. We demand immediate precautionary measures; otherwise, we will be compelled to launch an agitation," the leader told reporters at the scene.
